Why is my Windows taskbar and desktop so full of icons I never use?
The Windows Taskbar is usually located on the bottom-right of your screen, next to the current time. Check out your taskbar right now, and see how many icons you have. There's probably so many that they don't even fit – you can see all of them by clicking on the little arrow. If you're an average computer user, there may be a huge collection of taskbar icons here. Hold your mouse over a few of them for a brief description.
You may find volume control, Internet connection, anti-virus program, and Microsoft Outlook. Every single icon here represents a program running in the background. It could be an active icon, like your antivirus; it could be running in the background, waiting to spring to life; or it could be inactive, waiting for you to click it. SpeedyPC's Tuner (Startup Tuner) can also display a listing of all the taskbar items which load at startup, for easy review.
